The ski area in Les Gets is ideal for beginners, families, and intermediate skiers. Les Gets shares a ski domain with Morzine, offering 120 kilometres of well-maintained pistes. This area provides plenty of terrain to explore during a typical week-long stay. If you're eager to tackle more challenging terrain, the broader Portes du Soleil offers 600 kilometres of runs, with easy access to Switzerland via the lifts in Avoriaz.

Portes du Soleil encompasses 12 interlinked ski resorts and is naturally divided into two parts, connected by a short town train ride at Morzine. The larger area to the east links French Avoriaz and Chatel with Swiss Morgins, Champery and other small villages. To the west is the smaller area of slopes shared by Morzine and Les Gets.

Les Gets has two main ski areas: Les Gets-Morzine and the Mont Chéry area, on the opposite side of the village. Mont Chéry is often quieter and offers a range of black and red runs, making it a favourite among more advanced skiers.

Les Gets ski holidays are also popular with families due to the range of gentle pistes and excellent ski schools. Beginners and children can take advantage of the wide green and blue slopes in the Mappy Beginners area at the top of the Chavannes Gondola. In the same area, children will delight in the “Le Grand Cry” family snow park which features totem poles, American Indian decorations and a variety of small tunnels and jumps to try.

Just to the right of the Chavannes section, you'll find Les Gets Bowl. With a wonderful mixture of blues, reds and a black, this is a great playground for intermediate skiers. One of our favourite runs in this area is Melezes, which runs down to the Perrieres section of the village.

Competent skiers can explore most of the Portes du Soleil circuit and its offshoots with confidence, whilst expert skiers will find various black runs dotted around the ski area, the most famous of these being the Swiss Wall which is reputed to be one of the hardest mogul runs in Europe.

Best Bars & Restaurants in Les Gets

When it comes to dining, Les Gets has some fantastic restaurants both on and off the mountain. Offering fantastic views over Les Gets from their expansive terrace, La Païka is a favourite spot of ours for a leisurely lunch in the sun. Another sunny spot on the mountain, Le Chasse Montagne combines Savoyarde classics with modern bistro-style dishes.

If you happen to be skiing in Avoriaz, we recommend stopping at La Cabane for traditional French staples alongside more modern European and Asian-influenced dishes.

For dinner, L'As des Neiges is an excellent bistro specialising in mouthwatering dishes inspired by the seasons. For meat lovers, we recommend La Biskatcha, a stylish bistro and grill serving barbecued meat and fish alongside the classics.

If you're celebrating a special occasion, head to La R'mize near the church for beautifully crafted Savoyard specialities. Other recommendations include Les Copeaux, a traditional restaurant with an extensive wine list, Bokka, an elegant Italian trattoria, and Vina Annapurna, an exquisite bistro and wine bar that emphasises local produce.

Les Gets offers plenty of evening entertainment from relaxed wine bars to nightclubs. Before returning to your ski chalet in Les Gets, finish your day on the slopes at the aptly named L’Aprèski at the foot of the pistes. Part of the Bellevue Hotel, you can enjoy live bands, DJs and a variety of delicious snacks. If you prefer a more pub-like atmosphere, Le Barbylone Bar, Black Bear and Le Pub Irlandais are popular spots.

If you are after a chicer setting, Le Bacchus is the perfect place for a glass of wine with views of the slopes, whilst Le Boomerang has an impressive gin list. We also like Le Cosy Bar at Hotel La Marmotte - the ideal spot for a mulled wine, glass of Champagne or cocktail. If you have a competitive streak, Bar Bowling on the main street has an underground ten-pin bowling alley and bar. For late-night action, Igloo Chalet Club has a resident DJ and stays open well into the early hours.

Top Events & Activities in Les Gets

If skiing isn't for you, Les Gets offers a wide range of alternative activities to keep you entertained. Breathe in the crisp mountain air on a scenic hike or tray snowshoeing through the stunning winter landscape. For something more adventurous, you can experience cani-cross, where you are harnessed to a dog as you hike through the snow. Continuing with the canine theme, hop onto a sled led by a team of Nordic dogs and driven by a professional musher for an unforgettable ride. For sledging fans, Les Gets has five secure slopes to enjoy, as well as an electric snowmobile circuit that's safe and fun for all ages. There's also an ice rink located in the heart of the village, open daily depending on the weather.

As night falls, immerse yourself in the enchanting Alta Lumina trail, a magical journey through the forest where the story is told with a mesmerising display of lights and imagery.

If you're looking to relax, the village boasts several spas, including Les Sources du Chery, Sereni Cimes or Sapanba Spa, each offering an array of facilities such as swimming pools, waterfalls, sensory showers, steam baths, saunas, whirlpools, and a range of soothing treatments.

Les Gets hosts several high-profile events throughout the winter season. December brings a week-long festive programme that includes guided tours through a magical forest, elf workshops, shows and Santa's grand arrival on the Front de Neige on Christmas Eve. January brings Gets Les Cannes, a ski touring night race, and The Trail Blanc, a trail running event offering four routes for younger runners and two routes for adults. January sees the Gets Les Cannes ski touring night race and the Trail Blanc, a winter running event offering several routes for runners of all ages. The Les Gets Comedy Festival in January showcases popular stand-up acts, while February’s Red Ski Shows feature an exhilarating display by the French Ski School, complete with a torchlit descent and fireworks.

In the summer, Les Gets chalets become a popular option for those looking to explore the mountains in a different way. Hiking, mountain biking, and golf are just a few of the outdoor activities available in the area. A mountain biking mecca, Les Gets offers kilometres of interlinked trails across the Portes du Soleil. The village is also part of the Additionally, the nearby lakes offer opportunities for swimming, paddleboarding, and picnicking.

Les Gets is part of the “Accueil Velo” initiative, meaning the town is equipped with cycle paths, self-service bike stations, electric bike stations and recharging points to encourage cyclists and mountain bikers. Les Gets also has an 18-hole golf course, an abundance of marked hiking trails, a lake with inflatable slides and opportunities to try white-water rafting, parapenting and rock climbing.

Worth purchasing is the Multi Pass Portes du Soleil, ensuring unlimited access to more than 60 leisure facilities across the 12 resorts.

How to get to Les Gets

Les Gets is easily accessible from several major airports. Geneva is the closest, located just over an hour away by car or shuttle. Other nearby airports include Lyon and Chambéry.

For you're thinking about driving, Les Gets is well connected to major French motorways, and is around an eight-hour drive from Calais for those coming from the UK. Parking is available in the village, and some luxury chalets in Les Gets offer private parking. If you prefer not to drive, the train is a convenient option, with the closest station in Cluses, just 22 kilometres away. From there, you can get a taxi, pre-book a private transfer or take the bus to Les Gets.
