A former retreat of Urho Kekkonen, the longest-serving Finnish president, Javri Lodge offers total tranquility 250 km north of the Arctic Circle. Surrounded by fells, forests, lakes and rivers, the Lodge is located in the small village of Saariselka and is just a 30-minute drive from Ivalo airport. Renovated in 2017, the lodge is a wonderful blend of modern architecture and traditional design. With sustainability in mind, the lodge has geothermal heating and water systems, flooring made from recycled plastic and local materials were used throughout the build. Sleeping 26 guests, the lodge is open for the winter season from November to April and the summer season which runs from August to October.
Tailor-made for relaxing, Javri Lodge has a fantastic lounge area with a cosy wood-burning fireplace and a well-stocked wine cellar. There’s also a vast dining room where you can enjoy the lodge’s creative menu. Changing daily, the menu reflects seasonality and availability. King crab comes from northern Norway, wild fish from nearby lakes and reindeer and game are sourced from a local family business. Dinner is a five-to-seven-course feast featuring local organic delicacies paired with the finest wines from small European vineyards.
Javri Lodge is an adult-only escape, accommodating 26 adults across 13 suites; six Cosy Doubles, three Presidential Suites and four SkyView suites. The stylish Cosy Doubles, with king-size beds, sheepskin armchairs and chic Scandi furnishings, are situated on the ground floor.
Also on the ground floor are the three Presidential Suites which feature original log walls, king-size beds and natural materials including oak, wool and reindeer hides. Upstairs are the minimalist-style SkyView Suites which feature floor-to-ceiling glass walls showcasing the stunning views. There are no TVs or phones in the rooms, but there is a tablet should you need to get online.
After an Arctic adventure, an immersive wellness experience at the lodge awaits. Dive into the indoor pool or unwind in the Finnish sauna. You can also experience a variety of treatments from hot stone treatments to massage and aromatherapy. A fitness studio with floor-to-ceiling windows takes care of those who have energy to burn.
The lodge provides a great base from which to explore the picturesque region. With the Urho Kekkonen National Park right on the doorstep, this is the perfect opportunity to experience untouched nature in all its glory. Guided activities include snowshoeing, downhill and cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, husky and reindeer safaris and viewing the Northern Lights.
In summer, hike through the incredible landscape of the National Park or visit swamps and forests to forage for berries and mushrooms.
