Riverside refuge for action-packed days or relaxation

Set within 13 acres, Rio Palena Lodge is a spacious, secluded retreat surrounded by the spectacular Andes mountain range. This ultimate ski retreat offers an exciting assortment of adventures from heli-skiing between October and December to angling between December and March. Located in the dramatic Los Lagos region, Rio Palena Lodge is set back from the world down a long dirt road, offering guests maximum privacy and tranquillity.

Set over two floors, Rio Palena Lodge has a spacious lounge with an immense stone fireplace and sweeping views of the nearby river and surrounding snow-capped peaks. On the other side of the fireplace is an elegant dining room featuring hardwood floors and exposed wooden beams. The lodge has seven en-suite double bedrooms with spectacular valley views. After a day's adventuring, the lodge welcomes you home with its wood-fired barrel sauna and two cedarwood hot tubs - the perfect spot for stargazing.

A stay at Rio Palena Lodge provides guests with the opportunity to enjoy incredible guided heli-ski expeditions to the towering peaks surrounding the lodge. The terrain includes an assortment of open bowls, steep couloirs and gentler glacier runs. A typical day in this remote setting consists of six to ten runs. However, there are plenty of alternative activities to try, from fly fishing, white-water rafting and hiking to stand up paddle boarding and mountain biking. Guests will be kept well-fuelled during their stay with chef-produced meals using locally-sourced ingredients.

The lodge is fully outfitted with all fly fishing gear, NRS rafts, Hyde Power Drifter jet boats, Badfish SUPs, Trek full suspension mountain bikes and 4x4 overland campers and SUVs for guest transport. Guests travelling here can either fly private to Palena Airfield or to Chaiten where commercial flights are also available.

Location of Rio Palena Lodge

Rio Palena Lodge is located in the Los Lagos region of Patagonia and can be reached via a private flight to Palena Airfield (followed by a 20-minute drive) or Chaiten where commercial flights are also available. From Chaiten it is a three-hour drive to Palena Lodge.
