Meribel Villages & Ski Lifts

Méribel unfolds along a sun-drenched west-facing valley, with a collection of hamlets and villages that each offer a slightly different flavour of the resort. At the heart is Méribel Centre (La Chaudanne), set at 1,450m, where you’ll find the main lift hub, ski school meeting points, and a vibrant après-ski scene. There's a mix of traditional chalets, high-end boutiques, restaurants, and access to the Olympic Sports Centre, complete with swimming pool, spa and indoor rink.

Above the centre, Le Plateau, Rond-Point des Pistes, and Belvédère stretch toward the Altiport. These areas offer quieter, forested surroundings and many ski-in/ski-out chalets. Rond-Point, often simply known as “The Ronnie”, is also a popular spot for slope-side lunch and live music in the afternoon sun.

At the far end of the valley, Mottaret (1,750m) sits at a higher elevation and offers arguably the best access to the entire 3 Vallées network. More snow-sure and practical in design, Mottaret is well-connected and favoured by keen skiers who prioritise fast connections over nightlife.

To the west, Méribel Village (1,400m) exudes alpine charm and tranquillity. With its bakery, a couple of restaurants and lift link via the Golf chairlift, it’s a popular choice for families and those seeking a more serene mountain experience. All areas are served by a free, regular bus service.

Meribel Ski Area

Spanning from 1,300m to nearly 3,000m, the Méribel valley offers over 150 km of pistes on its own—beautifully varied, immaculately groomed and nestled between snow-dusted forests and panoramic alpine ridges. Méribel has some great starting points for beginners, although these can be difficult to reach depending on where you are staying. The Altiport sector, just above Méribel Centre, is particularly good for novices, offering wide green runs such as Blanchot, gentle gradients and a dedicated ZEN zone. Mottaret also offers convenient nursery slopes, while Rond-Point provides an ideal halfway point for learners staying higher up.

As confidence builds, beginners can explore long blues into Belleville or Courchevel. Children will love the range of themed slopes in Méribel. 1. When to Ski in Meribel

Méribel enjoys a long ski season from early December to late April, thanks to its altitude (1,300m–2,952m) and excellent snowmaking. Mid-January to mid-March typically offers the most reliable snow conditions. For quieter slopes and fewer lift queues, avoid the French school holidays (especially mid-February). Late March to early April is ideal for sunny lunches and spring skiing.

2. Meribel Ski Pass Options

Méribel offers flexible ski passes to suit every itinerary. For short visits, 4-hour and 1-day passes are available for both the local area and the full 3 Vallées. The upgrade is minimal—a 3 Vallées adult day pass costs €79, just €12 more than the Méribel-only option (€67).

For longer stays, a 6-day adult Méribel pass is €333, while the 3 Vallées version is €395—only €62 more for access to 600 km of pistes. Families skiing for six days or more can benefit from the Family Pass, available for groups of 3+ (up to 2 adults and 1–6 children aged 5–17). How to Get to Meribel

By Plane:

The closest airport is Chambéry (approx. 1 hr 30 min), offering the shortest transfer times—ideal for weekend ski breaks. Geneva, Lyon and Grenoble airports are also popular gateways, each around 2 hr 15 minutes away by road and with a wider selection of international flights. From all four airports, private chauffeur-driven transfers can be arranged for easy travel to your chalet. By Train:

Taking the train is a relaxed and environmentally friendly way to reach Meribel resort. High-speed TGV and Eurostar services run to Moûtiers-Salins-Brides-les-Bains, the closest station to Méribel and just 25 minutes away by car or private transfer.

By Car:

Driving to Méribel offers flexibility, especially if you're bringing your own equipment or planning to explore neighbouring resorts. The final stretch of the drive from Moûtiers involves a well-maintained mountain road with regular snow clearing, but snow chains (or winter tyres) are essential during heavy snowfall. Parking is available at most chalets, and covered public car parks can be found in Méribel Centre and Mottaret. Do note that once you’re in resort, a car is not necessary thanks to the efficient free shuttle system.

In-Resort Transport:

Once you’ve arrived, Méribel’s free and frequent shuttle buses connect all villages in the valley—from Méribel Village and the Altiport to Rond-Point, Centre and Mottaret.
