Part of the expansive Arlberg ski region, Lech is centrally located within the local ski area with Oberlech above, Zürs to the south and Warth (which connects to Schröcken to the north. To the east lie St Anton, St Christoph and Stuben. The village is well-served by an efficient lift system, with major lifts like the Rüfikopf and Schlegelkopf providing quick access to the slopes. Oberlech has its own cable car, delivering guests to the car-free village every 15 minutes. Luggage and goods are also transported via this cable car and distributed to hotels and restaurants through an underground tunnel network.
For beginner skiers, Lech features numerous well-groomed blue slopes ideal for learning the basics. Designated children’s learning areas are conveniently located near the village centre opposite Schlegelkopf, as well as in Oberlech and Zürs. One of our favourite runs to progress to is Monzabonsee, a breathtaking blue from the top of the Rüfikopf I and II cable cars, offering phenomenal views.
The Zürs sector offers more challenging intermediate pistes, whilst the gentler pistes around Oberlech are perfect for leisurely cruising. For quieter skiing, we recommend Sonnenkopf, Zürs and Rendl. Shaded in the mornings, Rendl is best skied in the afternoon when it benefits from the last of the sun. Head down the R1 to St Anton and stop for a cold beer at the Bifang Alm before making your way back over to Lech.
For experts, Lech offers a decent number of steep descents. Saloberkopf in the Warth-Schröcken sector is known for its deep powder and challenging off-piste routes. If you’re feeling truly adventurous, we suggest taking the Rüfikopfbahn cable car up to 2,350m and testing your mettle on the Langer Zug, one of the steepest groomed ski runs in the world with an 80% gradient. It is also worth knowing that Lech is the only location in Austria to offer heli-skiing. This takes place on two peaks - Mehlsack is ideal for experienced skiers, whilst Schneetäli-Orgelscharte is better suited to skiers of intermediate ability.
Best Bars & Restaurants in Lech
With the Michelin Guide releasing its Austria selection in January 2025, Lech may soon receive its first Michelin stars. Meanwhile, the resort boasts an array of Gault-Millau-rated menus. Most restaurants are connected to hotels but there are some notable exceptions including Hûs Nr 8, a cosy tavern renowned for its exceptional Austrian cuisine. If you’re looking to explore beyond the Austrian classics, Fux offers a delightful fusion of Asian and European cuisine and features one of Austria’s best and most extensive wine lists. Another top dinner spot is Hotel Goldener Berg. With a fireplace, piano lounge and breathtaking views over Lech, this is the perfect retreat on a cold winter’s night.
On the mountain, we love Balmalp for its delicious Italian fare - including the giant sharing pizza! Another favourite is Rud Alpe, known for its seriously good Austrian cuisine. Make sure you save room for the tasty kaiserschmarrn and apple strudel for dessert.
Apres-ski in Lech tends to be more sophisticated than neighbouring St Anton. Most people head to the exclusive Hotel Krone for cocktails and after-hours partying in K Club. For the best glühwein in town drop into the Eisbar outside Hotel Tannbergerhof or head to the Cottage Pub underneath the hotel for Guinness on tap. On the slopes, we like Schlegelkopf with its extensive wine and whisky menu, DJs and live music.

Top Events & Activities in Lech
Non-skiers in Lech can enjoy a spot of ice skating on the open-air rink in Zürs or undercover at Hotel Monzabon. Adrenaline-seekers can embark on tandem paragliding flights over the Arlberg, or for something more relaxing, the resort offers 40 km of well-groomed paths for winter hiking such as the Snowflake Panorama Trail at Rüfikopf. On bad weather days, head to sport.park.lech for a workout, pampering session, game of tennis or a spot of bowling.
During the winter season, Lech hosts several events including the thrilling White Ring race which takes place every January. This legendary ski race circuit attracts around 1,000 participants who attempt the 22 km route.
Another popular event is Tanzcafé Arlberg Music Festival at the beginning of April. The festival takes place in five locations on countless stages in the Arlberg region.
Summer in Lech
The activities in summer are just as varied. Luxury summer chalets in Lech provide the perfect base to explore the hiking and biking trails, fish for trout, or swim in the beautiful forest swimming pool.
Golfers can head over to the course in Zug whilst adventure seekers can enjoy climbing and abseiling at the Rüfikopf. How to get to Lech
A small village in the Vorarlberg region of Austria, Lech can be reached by plane, train and car. The nearest airports to Lech are Innsbruck (100 km), Friedrichshafen (130 km), Munich (190 km) and Zurich (200 km).
From the airport, we can arrange a private transfer to Lech which takes approximately 1.5 hours from Innsbruck and around 2.5 hours from Zurich. It is also possible to travel within 30 minutes of the resort by train. The closest stations are Langen am Arlberg (15 km) and St Anton am Arlberg (20 km). The onward journey via bus or taxi to the resort takes 20-30 minutes.
